An Overview of American Literature
Welcome to Honors and Junior American Literature
Both Honors American Literature (HAL) and Junior American Literature (AL) are survey courses. They cover roughly the same content; however, the honors course demands a deeper analysis of works, has more idependent assignments for students, and has a more rigorous grading scale.
In both HAL and AL, we will chronologically cover the literature of this country. My goal is for students to exit the class in May with an understanding of how American culture has been shaped by the wide variety of people who have touched this land both as citizens and explorers over the centuries by examining and analyzing the texts (which extends beyond writing to both art and music) those people produced. Further, students' reading and writing skills will be sharpened by the activities and assignments.
