Mission for Film Society

The goal of this group is to promote film appreciation.  After an orientation meeting in August, we meet one Wednesday a month to watch a different film.  I choose the films in an effort to balance genre, generation, film technique, and film approach.   Before each screening, I will highlight important information about the movie.

History of Film Society

Film Society was born during the 2004-2005 school year.  A student suggested that a group exist to watch movies, and since I love film and had taken three different film courses at Purdue, it seemed natural that I would sponsor this group.  Since that year, we have screened over 135 different movies.

Students are always welcome to each screening, whether they have ever attended a meeting before or not.  However, students should check to make sure that they don't need any parent permission forms should we watch an  'R' rated film.

I recommend that parents and students access Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com), should they be interested in learning more about a particular film or to find out why a film has been assigned its rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). This website is such a useful tool for any film lover.
